Metal spinning, or spin forming, is a process in which a rotating roller moves over a metal blank. The metal spinning process begins with a sheet metal blank spinning on a lathe. The metal disc is pressed onto a tool with a tailstock (called a mandrel or chuck). The metal disc, tailstock, and tool rotate in a circular motion, and the roller, controlled by the CNC system, presses on the metal through a series of roller paths to form the metal on the tool. The final part is exactly the shape of the forming tool.
